John Lothian interviewed Andrew Castello, vice president and head of client operations at FIA Tech, in a video for John Lothian News. Castello talked about what’s new at FIA Tech’s data business, including expanding its network, introducing contract specifications, and bringing in proprietary vendors. They have also been focusing on index futures and single stock futures.

Asked what led to FIA Tech’s new agreement with Eurex, Castello said Eurex became involved in the latter part of 2023 when it signed a partnership agreement with FIA Tech around foreign security futures. Eurex has decided to use FIA Tech to evaluate its own products, he said.

“This is a big push for our product and the industry as a whole, as it starts putting together a more strategic approach to evaluating whether US clients can or can’t trade these foreign securities,” Castello said.

Last year was a pivotal moment for the security futures, he said. FIA Tech’s analysis caught the radar of Katten, a legal advisor to a number of firms and exchanges etc. around foreign security futures, and Katten has partnered with FIA Tech to incorporate its own analysis into FIA Tech’s product.

Another partnership was in 2021 with MSCI, Qontigo, S&P and FTSE and a handful of exchanges that produce their own indices. FIA Tech also partnered with FactSet, its data provider, to bring in volume and the pricing information, he said.

JLN also asked Castello what’s new with FIA Tech’s database network services. He said that after building a foundation for the post trade services, FIA Tech started focusing on delivery and ways to push that out to its clients in different formats. FIA Tech has built a chatbot to allow people to be able to use all of its data services and feeds, no matter what function they perform at a firm. It has also introduced a UI that lets people access its databank contract information.

He also talked about how FIA Tech is using AI.

More effort needed on financial literacy in the UK

When the Financial Times launched the FT Financial Literacy and Inclusion Campaign in 2021, the case for financial education was clear. Financial literacy has been shown time and again to improve life outcomes, across ages and demographics, while boosting economic potential.

Three years of experience working with young people, women and marginalized communities has only confirmed FLIC’s view of the importance and scale of the challenge. It has therefore been heartening to see increased attention from policymakers in recent years. Yet a report this week by the UK’s parliamentary Education Committee suggests that much more needs to be done.
