Gold is back. Despite what you may have read in recent days about gold’s price decline, institutional investors are aggressively positioning for the yellow metal to rally through summer since the Federal Reserve recently indicated that it was pausing future rate hikes. Since last week’s meeting of the Fed’s interest-rate setting committee, investors have rushed into the sector and aggressively established large positions in response to the Federal Reserve confirming what everyone already knew—it is unlikely to raise interest rates anytime soon.
Nasdaq halts trading on certain ETF options
Options on certain exchange traded funds, including the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF and the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF, will not trade on Nasdaq’s exchanges on Monday due to late notification of capital gains distributions, Nasdaq said in a system status message on Monday.

Hedge fund managers piled back into petroleum last week after Saudi Arabia and its allies in the OPEC+ group of major oil exporters announced deeper-than-expected cuts to their production in the first quarter of 2020. Hedge funds and other money managers bought futures and options equivalent to 154 million barrels in the six most important contracts linked to petroleum prices in the week to Dec. 10.

After the China Securities Regulatory Commission rolled out rules on Friday making refinancing and spin-off listings easier for listed companies and expanded the scope of derivatives trading, analysts are expecting more in the coming year.
