Data From GameStop’s Wild Week Examined
Kevin Tyrrell is the head of research for NYSE. He and his team of researchers and economists were intrigued by the market activity during an unprecedented surge in the price of GameStop shares during January 25-29, 2021, and they wanted to see how different OTC trading platforms responded to the order flow, including NYSE’s Retail Price Improvement (RLP) programs.
John Lothian News interviewed Tyrrell about that week’s market activity in a Zoom chat. We asked him what the study examined, what the big takeaways were from the study and what they learned about the OTC platforms from that week’s equity price action.
He discussed ways the retail price improvement programs might be tweaked to improve their performance, how the liquidity indicator for those programs works and who can see it.
Finally, we asked him what subjects this new research unearthed for potential future research subjects.
