The annual LaSalle Street dinner supporting the Chicago Council of Boy Scouts of America is to be held on November 3, 2011 from 5 to 8 PM at 311 South Wacker.
Traditionally the dinner was held on LaSalle Street, with tents stacked into the asphault street. More recently the event has been held in the plaza next to the Chicago Board of Trade Building. This year the event moves to 311 South Wacker.
As many of you know, I am active in Boy Scouts, serving as a Scoutmaster of a suburban Boy Scout Troop. I am also a Merit Badge Counselor for a handful of badges. I served as the District Chair for Potawatomi Trails for several years. I have also served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, Cubmaster, Popcorn Kernel and Assistant Scoutmaster.
What you may not know is that it was after attending the LaSalle Street dinner and hearing the speeches by industry people and Boy Scout leaders that I decided to become a scout leader. I decided to become a Den Leader for my son Tim’s Wolf Den. And as they say, the rest is history.
The Boy Scouts are a great organization. They are not without their issues and problems, and I have had mine, but I firmly believe in their mission and focus on delivering the best experience possible for the boys and girls who are in the program.
You have the opportunity to support this worthy organization and the thousands of youth served by the Chicago Area Council by attending the dinner. I encourage you to do or, or persuade your company to do so. For information about the event, please go to http://www.chicagobsa.org/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=44105&orgkey=2652.
