At last fall’s FIA Expo Chicago, John Lothian News partnered with Cinnober Financial Technology to bring you industry conversations, where we conduct short interviews with industry participants on the important topics facing the financial markets.
The 2015 theme is “Sweet 16: The Tops For 2016.” What technology, regulation, exchange or macroeconomic issue or trend will be most important to our industry next year? We will take the 16 best ideas and thoughts and package them in a John Lothian News video series. Here is what our participants had to say:
- Part 1 – Exchanges: Exchange leaders will be dealing with big changes at their respective companies in 2016, from launching new competing markets and dealing with new regulation to integrating new data acquisitions to expanding across different time zones. We spoke with Michael Davie, Terry Duffy, Jeff Sprecher and Rama Pillai about the top exchange priorities for 2016.
- Part 2 – Economics: From the Federal Reserve Bank moves on rates to the supply and demand for crude oil, 2016 is expected to be a big year for the derivatives industry. In our JLN Sweet 16 Series, we spoke with industry executives who gave us their top economic trends to watch in 2016. Here’s what Don Wilson, Terry Duffy, Christian Hauff and Derek Sammann had to say.
- Part 3 – Regulation: Regulation is always front and center and it will be once again next year. In our John Lothian News Sweet 16 Series, we spoke with Timothy Massad, Gary DeWaal, Dan Roth and Marisol Collazo about everything from the CFTC’s regulatory framework to the impact on innovation to harmonizing data. Here’s what they had to say.
- Part 4 – Technology: Technology is the lifeblood of the financial markets. As we look ahead in our Sweet 16 series at 2016, here are four ideas from Matthew Rees, Hazem Dawani, Adam Honore and Matt Hughes – about where we are headed with new technology.
Though the initial idea of the series was to take the top 16 ideas, this proved to be more difficult than we expected, as we had almost 40 solid, insightful answers to chose from.
So we decided to publish what we call “honorable mentions” to the Sweet Sixteen series, though as you will see, the contributions are, in many cases, every bit as relevant as those published in the first round.
- Exchanges Honorable Mention – The Sweet 16 Series drew from 38 interviews conducted at the FIA Expo Conference in November 2015. Here are comments from Michael Grecoff, head of sales at Cinnober, Matt Chamberlain, head of business development at London Metal Exchange, Magnus Haglind, CEO of Nasdaq Futures, Scott Caudell, Chief Technology Officer at IDC.
- Regulation Honorable Mention – The John Lothian News Sweet 16 Series featured our best ideas and thoughts about exchanges, regulation, economics and technology. But there are still more great ideas for 2016 that made our honorable mention. Here are comments from Art Hahn of Katten, Travis Schwab of Eventus Systems, Steve Probst of Global Risk, Brendan Bradley of Eurex, Justin Llewellyn-Jones of Fidessa on regulation.
- Technology Honorable Mention – Here are comments from David Snowdon, CTO of Metamako, Rob D’Arco, CEO of Rival Systems, Stephen Kuhn, CEO and Founder of Airex, and Jim Northey, principal consultant of CameronTec Group.
