Welcome to The Spread, I’m Matt Raebel.

FIA Boca was canceled last year due to the coronavirus, which was a bummer for a lot of folks, but ultimately, it was probably the right call. This year, not even the coronavirus could stop Boca, and not even intermittent internet outages in Chicago could stop JLN from covering it.

The John Lothian News team published over a dozen stories this week covering the event, which you can check out at John Lothian News dot com. Give ‘em a look, because we worked our butts off this week to bring you the latest intel straight from the biggest names in the industry.

For the virtual event, FIA created a nifty website this year that allowed attendees to watch sessions live and on-demand, and even network with other participants from the comfort of their home offices. Although it served its purpose, it wasn’t exactly the same as attending the event; in addition to the absence of sandy beaches, attendees had to put their own tiny umbrellas in their cocktails, if they so desired.

As for news besides virtual Boca – this week Options Solutions, an options-focused asset management firm officially launched. According to their press release, the company aims to help high-net-worth investors add conservative options trading strategies to their portfolios … there was something else, what was it…oh, right – also the company is headed by the former head of both the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Cboe, Bill Brodsky, as well as Barron’s reporter Steven M. Sears. It’s an exciting development and we’re looking forward to hearing more about this company.

The CME Group also announced this week that it will launch E-mini Nasdaq-100 Monday and Wednesday Weekly Options on April 12, pending regulatory review. The contracts will be European-style options with a 4 p.m. Eastern time expiry on Mondays and Wednesdays and a $20 multiplier.

And finally, the industry continued to react this week to the passing of Jack Sandner, the former chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, who died on March 11. John Lothian wrote a lengthy reflection piece celebrating Sandner’s life. You can read it at John Lothian News dot com, as well as our coverage of FIA Boca-V, as well as other news and insights. As for me, I’m gonna sign off for the week, so until next time, stay safe and happy trading.
