This week on The Spread, FIA’s virtual expo fills in for the physical event, Cboe and ICE launch new products, and more.
Produced by Mike Forrester.
Welcome to The Spread, I’m Matt Raebel. It’s been a busy week around here; FIA’s 2020 expo wrapped up yesterday. The entire editorial staff of JLN, myself included, was hard at work covering the virtual presentations that replaced the usual event. Still, nothing could totally replace the real thing: the physical booths, shaking hands with real people, and patiently waiting for them to start wheeling out those metal carts full of free beer. Still, the virtual nature of the expo didn’t make the talks less interesting – you can check out our coverage of the event at John Lothian News dot com. ICE Clear Credit announced this week that it would begin offering clearing for credit default swap (CDS) index options on the North American and High Yield indices on CDX. It’s just too bad I can’t use it to swap MY credit risk…‘cause early Christmas shopping this year is…well, long story short let’s just say I bought too many Nintendo Switches BEFORE Black Friday. Cboe has announced the launch of options indexes that will give traders new strategies for options trading and investing. The exchange said Wednesday that it has launched two Target Outcome Indices on the Russell 2000: the Cboe Russell 2000 Enhanced Growth Index Series and the Cboe Russell 2000 Buffer Protect Index Series. The new indices are designed to protect against market declines and/or to provide 2x appreciation up to a cap relative to the Russell 2000. Cboe’s already got a ton of index products, but I guess their attitude is, ‘you can’t have too much of a good thing.’ Edu-Futuro, an organization that helps youths from immigrant families get access to decent education and enter the workforce, named our sponsor, the OCC, Corporate Partner of the Year on November 6. Edu-Futuro has been partnered with the OCC for two years – I guess that makes them like an older sibling to this show. I’m sure it would be a good sibling relationship – Edu-Futuro seems like it would be like the older sibling who helps you deal with life instead of the kind of sibling that gives you swirlies and puts “kick me” signs on your back. That’s gonna do it for The Spread this week. Don’t forget to check out John Lothian News dot com for our coverage of FIA’s digital 2020 Expo. We’ll see you again next week. Until then, stay safe and happy trading.
