“You Can Close your Eyes” – an Appeal from Mark Spanbroek

“You Can Close Your Eyes” James Taylor
So close your eyes;
You can close your eyes, it’s all right.
I don’t know no love songs,
And I can’t sing the blues any more.
But I can sing this song,
And you can sing this song
When I’m gone.
Dear friends,
Most of you know what this message is about. October is the month for breast cancer awareness and to raise money for its research. I am walking again this year for A Sisters Hope during the first weekend in October, for the 9th time, to support this much needed research. Over the last 8 years I raised with your support just over EUR 300.000, and this year I like to increase this number again with your support.
I continue to monitor the spending of the monies donated to make sure nothing is wasted. The progress being made through research is absolutely phenomenal, but please let this not be a reason for you not to support me. There are still 1 out of 7 women who will die of breast cancer. But the research has made vast progress of the early discovery of the disease and through this many young women are treated earlier and more precise, so the survival rate will go up.
We support breast cancer research in three ways. One way is publicly through A Sisters Hope and the other projects are projects by the University in Leiden and the other project is a joint program by the Academic hospital in Utrecht and the AVL Netherlands Cancer Institute. Please mail me separately if you are interested to support the latter two research projects.
‘Why still support breast cancer research’ you may ask? Every child needs a mother and not just for the first 9 years of its life. This is how old my son was when his mum passed away. Also every mum by nature needs to see her child grow up. This is my one and only reason to walk and to prevent this to happen to other kids and mums.
Please support me before October 3 through http://www.asistershope.org/donateUS.php and state my participant number 1257. You can also donate directly by transferring to IBAN#: NL45INGB0002947137 Swift/BIC: INGBNL2A Stichting A Sister’s Hope, ING-Amsterdam. Please mention of walker 1257!
Thank you so much for the support.
Also on behalf of Nils,
Mark
